The Power To Live Your Dreams

Learning Best Practices

Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins. -- Jim Rohn

We are all born with the common sense to create, explore, learn, discover and invent. However, we get so much information all day long that we lose our common sense. The poet Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes." Using common sense, we can learn to harness our genius, calling up our creative power to simplify the complex and improve the quality of our lives.

Learning Best Practices is about using common sense to think more effectively and creatively. Common sense allows us to see what many miss. By the use of common sense, we can learn to think like a genius; we can use our minds to transform ideas, knowledge and experiences into useful applications for our daily activities.

Think Like a Genius

The goal of Learning Best Practices is to help you think like a genius. Like them, you will learn to rely on your intuition and personal knowledge to think deeply and with originality. Simple things, like learning to listen, taking notes and being more organized can maximize your learning potential more than you'd ever imagine.

Know Thyself Avoid distractions

Use common sense Learn with curiosity
Make connections Use your imagination
Pay Attention to details Ask question

Know thyself

"Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; Mastering yourself is true power." -- Lao Tzu, Chinese Taoist Philosopher

The Ancient Greek maxim "know thyself", was inscribed in the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Know thyself has had a variety of meanings attributed to it in literature; the maxim is applied to those whose boasts exceed what they are; the maxim is a warning to pay no attention to the opinion of the multitude. Know thyself is about understanding what we value most, learning about what is most important to us and why it's important to us. Know thyself can be a journey of understanding what your belief systems are and knowing about beliefs that empower you and beliefs that prevent you from achieving what you want from life.

In developing greater understanding of our thoughts and actions, we must recognize both our strengths and our weaknesses. Nobody likes to admit their weaknesses. Yet, when we gain self-knowledge - both appreciating our strengths and confronting our weaknesses - we are opening up new possibilities for personal growth. Self-knowledge can also help us be more efficient and focused in producing change because we'll know precisely what we need to work on. When weaknesses are identified, it doesn't mean that we're incapable of change. Rather than being uncomfortable with facing our weaknesses, we have to be willing to consider the information in a positive and constructive way. It may be that we haven't had to use these skills well enough.

Here are 5 important steps:

  1. Write Your Life Story. Writing your life story can reveal whether we really understand who we are, and why our lives have turned out in the way they have. Do we understand the impact of the way we were raised? What is the influence of our friends and family on the decisions we've made so far? What types of emotional journey have we taken? Is our life full of joy, or weighed down with deep fears or anger? To what extent our past experiences affect our current reality? Do we accept ourselves for who we are, or do we fight against this?

  2. Experiment New Things. Experiment Rather than waiting for new experiences to arrive, it can be really valuable to look for them proactively. You can do this for yourself by taking different types of vacations, or experimenting with new hobbies or dance classes. You may find hidden talents, or things about ourselves that you didn't know about - particularly when the new activities are stimulating and energizing.

  3. Keep a daily journal. By writing down your thoughts and feelings on a daily basis, you build fluency - particularly, emotional fluency. This habit also captures the mood of the moment can help you understand the range of emotions you have experienced. With daily practice, this regular writing develops self-knowledge.

  4. Develop Self-awareness. Developing self-awareness is a very spiritual journey. It connects you to yourself, to your family, to your community, to the world. You can decide where it is you are going to go, and you have more control of your life and your circumstances.

  5. Practice Acknowledgment. Acknowledge all the hard work you've put into learning your skills. Feel great. Feel successful. Let your mind linger for several minutes on the successes from past achievement. These good feelings create the success vibration that will form the foundation of your future success.

It doesn't matter whether you were born rich of poor. It doesn't matter if you posses a Ph.D. or no degree. No matter what your circumstances, you can learn to be a productive thinker. True success depends on both. First, you will learn to think and visualize all of the things that you want in life. Second, you will learn to adopt daily practices to make decisions quickly and take consistent action. You alone have the responsibility to become a productive thinker.
